Tracking via GPS - mobile communication vs. satellite communication
While GPS-embedded handsets can collect GPS location information, sending the data relies on a stable
telecommunications network connection from your mobile services provider. Using satellite
communications enables reporting of the location of your assets, no matter where you are. But, the use
of satellite communications using the Low Earth Orbiting network is more expensive.
Hardware
Most satellite-communications enabled devices are IP rated for additional durability, and are mostly
battery powered devices. In some cases, battery life can be as long as 5-7 years. These devices are ideal
for tracking sleds, containers, heavy machinery, rolling stock, trailers or other stock that is non-powered
or exposed to harsh conditions.
Software
All of our satellite communications devices are linked to our new GPSi tracking software.
